I agree Kevin, social marketing seems like it's still in a sort of beta phase, but it is exploding! Companies love it because it's cheaper than most traditional methods, and people love it because they feel involved. It really is win win.

Greer, I checked out your team and it looks great. Your past experience in media, marketing etc. makes you seem like a no-brainer choice to go on this adventure. I wish you the best!

What a life!

With the advent viral marketing, I'm left wondering how much longer the multimillion dollar television spots will seem like a good allocation of resources. Looking at how much it would cost to send 3, let alone 30 correspondents to locations around the world, the cost pales in comparison to the budget for those 30-second, easily-ignored, zero-engagement advertisements.

I've talked with a few VPs of marketing firms and this is a more common occurrence than you may have thought.
Some firms will cover travel costs to get a few bloggers to come out to an event where a product or two are featured, and will let the bloggers use the products for free.
There is no obligation to write about the product, but if they like it they usually will. I think this is a great way to spread the word about products in a non-traditional way.
People listen to viral marketing. Period.

I like this news bit.
This is so mostly because when I came to UWO I came with the intentions on becomming a journalist for a newspaper, but over the past 2 years I have seen a change in news, like we all have. I don't need to be hired by a newspaper to tell a story anymore.

I think it is truely liberating that people are taking power into their hands, thanks to the net. Coca Cola's campaign to send three bloggers to report on optimism and joy is bloody brilliant.

Like we learnt in class, us consumers, or should i say CITIZENS (what we should be foremost) are re-defining market strategy by saying, "No, to the nonsense of consumption corruption".

I think the future looks bright us.
